Residing in an apartment in the city centre
A friend once had the opportunity to reside in one of the apartments in Birmingham Alabama that was right in the city center. He had many things to note about this change, especially because he had spent all his life living in the outskirts of the city. There were many lifestyle changes that had to be brought in, together with the fact that an apartment in the city meant more convenience in terms of luxury amenities and rent.
For starters, he experienced a difference in the decibel levels. Coming out of the calm of the outskirts, the noise level at this place was unimaginably high. With vehicles, honking, people, stereo systems, construction noises, children screaming, hustling at eateries nearby, etc., the mere people movement all around him was very new and different. His residence was on the 2nd floor of a four-story apartment building, and maybe this closeness to the ground level caused the high sounds. Besides the increased sound level, there were other changes he experienced.
To be staying at a convenient location, the apartment was in proximity to the local clinic, school, convenience store, shopping complex, and a library. This was the best advantage of making the shift, as staying in the outskirts; he had to travel miles to get anything or be anywhere. This shift also meant that he was closer to his city friends and workplace. The apartment was situated at just a 10-minute distance from his office, and so he does not have to get his car out at every instance. Coffee shops and malls were umpteen and seemingly close to the apartment, which meant good long hours of window shopping and peaceful, creative moments at coffee shops. He could get groceries at any time, or rather everyday, unlike earlier when he needed to stock on fruits, vegetables, and dairy items. This ensured fresh produce daily, and so he concluded that staying in the confines of the city proved healthier for him.
Additionally, the closeness to his social circle meant that he could more often meet up with them rather that wait for weekends when he could drive down to the city. The fortunate shift to an apartment within the city proved more advantageous than he could have thought. Frequently attending parties, social meetings, get-together’s and casual outings, the city surely added the happiness factor. Proximity to the central park also got him to go for a jog, or cycle ride every morning, a luxury he could not afford earlier due to time constraints. The apartment in the outskirts was out of reach and pretty isolated, with no amenities like a park or grocery store. He used to spend half the day traveling to and from work, with no time left for a casual walk, or peaceful sit at the park.
